Cured My Chronic Back Pain
I suffered from chronic back pain for eight years. I tried chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage. The only way I was able to completely and permanently alleviate my back pain was through the practices Sue demonstrates in this DVD. I am no yoga expert. I am very inflexible and unbalanced. I spend all day every day hunched over a computer. I feel Sue's approach targets the novice -- normal, everyday people who don't have much flexibility or balance. I tried the Rodney Yee DVDs, but he goes through the poses too fast and puts too much emphasis on perfect technique. Sue's emphasis is on alternatives to traditional poses -- alternatives that are achievable by the beginner or the injured. She isn't really even strictly devoted to yoga. Sue has her own unique blend of yoga, pilates and self administered massage (what she calls myofascial release) that enable a novice like me to really discover a sense of awareness and control over their own body and their own movements. Sue's practices have been revelatory for me. Being pain free for the first time in almost a decade is really liberating. And, I'm no longer spending a ton of time and money on chiropractic, acupuncture, and massage appointments. --Jim S. Sue does a wonderful job of directing your attention to your body, and shows you how to care for your back in many kind ways. At first, I thought this dvd was too subtle, too slow and gentle, to really relieve pain or strengthen my core. But after going through it several more times, I have to revise my initial opinion. My frequent lumbar pain is soothed after a session, and I find that muscles I didn't know were out-of-shape tend to be a bit sore the next morning (which is good - that means they are getting stronger, even if little by little). Having had a back surgery in the last two years, I have to be thoughtful when choosing exercise dvd's. I'm very glad to have found this one and appreciate Sue's efforts in creating it. --Sarah B. As a massage therapist with 10+ years experience, I know the importance of self care and I can see the difference in those who take the time to heal themselves. Sue Brantley's DVD Back Care Basics for Everyone offers details and insights into self care that will truly benefit everyone. --Donovan M. I recommend this DVD as a guide to a gentle preventative practice for those of us who are prone to back problems. Her approach draws on three disciplines: yoga, Pilates and myofascial release, and in my experience, one field cannot address all the issues involved. She has three distinct sessions to fill a practice week, so one does not get bored and shut the mind off to the benefits of each exercise. Further, the DVD has a very helpful “tips” section for posture and daily activities, a means to undoing the habits that can contribute to acute back pain. -- Shirley K. Sue has compiled an excellent collection of workouts for anyone looking for a gentle way to relieve back pain. She combines exercises from traditional yoga, Pilates, and myofascial release into three separate 25-minute workouts. The techniques and poses are explained in a very clear, understandable way, perfect for newcomers and experienced yogis alike. --Jen M. Like many of you, I have suffered with back pain for years. Unfortunately, reaching for the medicine cabinet has become almost a reflex. However today I took an important step toward a more holistic and healthful future when I reached for this DVD instead. 20 minutes into the Back Care Basics DVD and I was stretching my way to a better tomorrow. Sue's techniques brought almost instant relief! I have known Sue for over 25 years. She is a kind and gentle soul who has a passion for health and a talent for sharing. Her approach to back care is the same: honest, kind, and effective. Back Care Basics for Everyone is an excellent reference for anyone who is in a recovery stage, or who wants to simply maintain optimum back health. Sue's techniques are well-researched and thoroughly explained. With this DVD Sue's gentle and soothing demeanor is readily apparent as she demonstrates yoga and pilates exercises for better back care. She understands the limitations that a back injury or illness can impose on even the most mundane of tasks.--Kelly R. A strong core is a vital element in creating a healthy body and spine. Sue’s easy to follow instruction will lead you on the journey to increased strength, improved posture, and reduced pain. This is a must have for any of my patients. --Christine L., D.C. I have a stiff and often sore lower back, and have enjoyed using this DVD for relief of pain and stiffness. I do have other DVDs focused on back care, but they have been set aside in favor of this one. Sue's instructions are very clear, poses are easy to understand and to modify, and the myofascial release sections are an added benefit. The workouts are, for me, the perfect length - about 20 minutes each. My back feels much more relaxed and released after I complete one of the workouts. --Charlee This DVD has been very helpful for my husband and I. It is good if you have back issues (me), or just a sore back now and then (my husband). The instruction is clear and yet doesn't leave you hanging between poses like some other DVDs do. It has been helpful in giving us ways to take care of our backs in daily activities as well. I highly recommend it! --Laura R. Finally, here is a much needed DVD for those of us dealing with back issues. As a participant in many of Sue's workshops I know her to be a wonderfully caring & compassionate instructor who can truly relate to her students & some of the struggles they may face in their yoga or Pilates practice. Her emphasis is always on listening closely to your own body & adjusting the work to suit your body's needs while continuing to challenge yourself & grow in your personal practice. Do yourself a favor and add this terrifically helpful tool to your personal wellness program. --Quigley P.L. |
