ABOUT ME |
I am always on a path to learn new things. As a certified yoga, STOTT Pilates and Somatic Exercise instructor, I have been teaching yoga since 1998 and Pilates since 2003. In 2015 I became a certified as a Somatic Exercise Coach (two levels), and I am both a certified Yoga for Scoliosis teacher and a certified Zen•Ga instructor. I have also extensively studied fascial movement and self--myofascial release techniques.
My yoga style is eclectic, reflecting ideas from a multitude of respected yoga, Pilates, and somatics masters and physical therapists that I have studied with over the years. I want my classes to be an inspiring and engaging experience while keeping things fresh for each student. One of my co-workers described it as "sensible yoga." That seems about right. I am an E-RYT through the Yoga Alliance and was certified by studying with Bob Smith and Ki McGraw of Seattle. I have also studied PRI (Postural Restoration Institute) yoga, tai chi, qi gong, and many forms of dance. I began studying Pilates in 2002 to rehabilitate a knee injury and was so impressed with the results that I decided to become a teacher and share its gifts. I am a fully certified STOTT Pilates™/® instructor, and have completed numerous trainings in a variety of equipment and techniques. I have sought training with many excellent rehabilitation instructors in yoga and Pilates, somatic exercise, and myofascial release and fascial movement techniques. I am proficient in working with people with limited abilities due to injury, congenital conditions, and special needs. I am a firm believer in continuing to refine and enhance my own training to enrich the information I provides to my clients. In that spirit, each year I take several new courses to expand my knowledge base, giving me more tools to share. I have led many yoga workshops and retreats, and love to teach students of varying levels and abilities. While stressing the importance of excellent alignment, I encourage people to look within to find their own truth in any given posture, exercise, or meditation. I like to create an atmosphere of camaraderie and support among all my students, and nurture a relaxed and warm demeanor as a teacher. While keeping the safety of each student in mind, I believe in gently encouraging each person along their own path of self-discovery. See my training and extended bio here. |
